Rolling Over

Jackson has started rolling over nonstop! When I woke up this morning and checked the monitor he was on his tummy. During his morning nap we put him down on his back and within seconds he was rolling over onto his tummy and looked so cozy. I hope to catch the actual rolling on video soon. He's just too quick though!

This is my view on the monitor right now :)

I am pretty nervous about him sleeping on his tummy since back is better but knowing he can move himself easily helps ease my nerves a little bit.

Pumpkin Patch

We took Jackson to Kinsey Pumpkin Patch today. It is a beautiful farm with rolling acres of Christmas trees and other plants/trees. It was such a gorgeous day out. They have an area with cows and goats that kids can pet. They have so many different kinds, shapes and sizes of pumpkins. We put him in the bumbo since he isn't able to sit unassisted yet. We made sure to pick out some great pumpkins to purchase for home. They had a cute tractor ride that I know will be so much fun with Jackson next year.

Sleep Habits

The past few nights Jackson has woken up after only 30-45 min of being asleep. We are able to get him back down after just a few minutes but then he decides to wake again around 2. We try to soothe him but it doesn't work. He is definitely tired but for some reason can't fall back asleep. We are thinking it might be his gums hurting. I nurse him and eventually after that he falls back asleep. We have been extremely lucky with a good sleeper up until now and I had gotten way too used to sleeping all night again. Let's hope he gets back to his old routine soon. And seeing as its almost 10:30pm I better get to bed in case he does decide to wake up at 2!

Teething

From the endless drool to wanting to put everything in his mouth we know that the teething has begun! I know it could be a while before any pearly whites actually cut through but we are keeping our eyes open. Jackson loves to put his own fingers in his mouth too and rubs his gums :( I give him some refrigerated teething rings too to help soothe him.

Head Scan

This morning I took Jackson to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for his head scan. We have been going to PT every week and doing his stretches and tummy time at home. The next step was to get a head scan as a baseline to see how his head was shaped before his treatment continues. It was a quick 30 second scan that takes a picture of his head and then the tech is able to take a few quick measurements and see exactly where he stands.

They look at the width vs length ratio. Jackson's was 90.5 and they like to see 90 so we are good there. They also look at the diagonal symmetry. In a perfect world they would be equal but since no ones head is perfectly symmetrical they like to see a 6 mm difference or less. Jackson's is 9.3 so it's just a little off. If we keep doing all the stretches, repositioning, tummy time and PT it is possible that his head will change enough on its own. We go back in 5 weeks for another scan to see the progress. Luckily his head is at a point where it is growing rapidly and anything is possible.

Sleepy Boy

I love all the sweet ways he falls asleep :)

Cuteness

5 Months

Jackson is 5 months old! He is just the sweetest, happiest boy! He definitely has his fussy moments and fussy days but overall he is a happy little guy. He loves to smile whenever someone looks at him.

He is sleeping from about 7pm - 6:30am! Sometimes he will wake up around 5:30 or 6 am but usually closer to 6:30. He typically takes 3 naps a day. Although we still have days where he fights the naps. When we go get him out of the crib in the morning he has the biggest smile on his face. He is so excited to see us!

He is still nursing 5-6 times a day. He has a bottle occasionally and it doesn't usually go well. He really just doesn't like them. But since we switched to the Dr. Brown's bottles he does better than before. At first I was so worried that he would never catch on to breastfeeding since he started with all bottles and we had a REALLY hard time getting him to latch due to his prematurity, but now its the complete opposite and he only wants to nurse. I love it but it is hard when I want to try to have a few hours away during the day or maybe plan a girls night out (haven't done this yet...but soon!)

He is 15 lbs and I have no idea how long. We went to the Dr. last week for a quick check up as I had some things I was concerned about. He has a lot of congestion in his throat and chest sometimes and his eyes run a lot as the drainage duct is semi blocked. These are both issues that he should outgrow in the next 3-7 months. He is wearing 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers. Fall started here suddenly and now I need some more long sleeve 3-6 month outfits but I know he will outgrow them soon. It's so hard to gauge what to buy!

He loves to play on his playmat and grab the toys hanging. He sees his feet but doesn't try to grab them yet. He has rolled over from tummy to back a few times now and just rolled back to tummy yesterday! He also rolls from his back to sides all the time. He's getting really strong! He loves to stretch his legs out.

We are so lucky to have this sweet boy in our lives and we have a blast with him everyday!
